Repent

By Gerald Sumeracki

"Repent, repent all people," Did John the Baptist cry, "Yea, turn away from sinful ways, "God's Kingdom does draw nigh!" The message of the Baptist, Was new thought for the Jew, Men's sins the priests had told them, Were cleansed for only few. The High Priest's sprinkling of the blood, In offering once per year, Of bulls and goats and lambs and doves, Did make God's people pure. "Repent, repent," John told them, Words God did have John say, To turn the eyes of man from self, And seek the holy Way. They came to John's new waters, In humbled human pride, To come up clean in all ways pure, Prepared to be God's bride.
