Joseph's Dream

By Gerald Sumeracki

He had a love for this young girl, A love as pure as snow, She was a maiden of the Lord, Most chaste as all did know. He was known by all as Joseph, With all woods he worked with skill, His trade would make his Mary proud, When her love his life would fill. Betrothed they were through custom, Full promised was their love, Although he was a full grown man, This girl would be his Dove. And so this joyful promised maid, Who knew not of life's hurts, Thru humble acquiescence pure, Did bring God's seed to earth. When Joseph's dream was over, He knew what he must do, He took the maiden to his heart, To save her from her due. For Laws were plainly given, A maiden found with child, Would be a sinner due the death, On such the stones were piled! But God's hand was placed on Joseph, He let the world believe, That what was God's within his bride, Came through his manly seed.
