Martha's Complaint

By Gerald Sumeracki

"He's here, He's here!" their servant cried, The Lord, He does not tarry, Yes Jesus was to feast this night, With brother, me and Mary. I was so please He chose this day, A cut of lamb was found, The likes of which was rare it seemed, A leg most firm and round. The smells of cooking filled the room, Where all did sit to hear, The stories of this wondrous man, Known far and wide and near. Some special wines would soon arrive, To make the meal complete, As vegetables and bread did wait, Completion of the meat. The Lord was talking, I heard not much, I busied with my chores, There was so much to do it seemed, While Mary graced the floor! "Oh Lord"I said" there is so much," "That needs to be complete," "I sure could use my sister's help," "Please get her to her feet!" The Lord gave me a special smile, That told me I had erred, And said in tones of gentle love, How Mary's faith had faired. He said I'd chosen chores and strife, While Mary chose her seat, The meat and feast could wait until, His message was complete. "I love you all" the Master said, "But Martha learn from this," "Your sister chose to fill her soul," "And gain eternal bliss." "You need to open up your heart," "To what your God would give," "And thus be filled with hope and grace," "To fill the life you live."
