The Roman’s Servant

By Gerald Sumeracki

They walked and talked along the road, About God's love for man, The Master showed those at His side, New truths on which to stand. Then came a Roman soldier tall, Up to the Lord walked he, And asked that one of his be healed, Said Christ, "I'11 come with thee." "Oh no, my Lord," the Roman said, "I not so worthy be, "That you so great should come along, "Just say a word for me." "For I command and have the rule, "That only power can do, "I tell my slaves to come and go, "And know this you can too." "Just say the Word and I will know, "My servant will be healed." Said Jesus to all those who'd hear, "Great faith I see revealed." So Jesus told this faithful man, "Go now, your wish be done, "Yes, as your faith has clearly shown, "You trust in Us as One." The Roman went his homeward way, And knew that Jesus' word, Was all his servant had to have, To make him fully cured. Yes, this he thought, and than he knew, As toward his home he came, When household slaves ran to his side, Each shouting all the same!! "He's cured, he's cured, no more he's ill, "Your faithful servants well!! " "What was the hour the fever broke?" He asked them all to tell. By answer than he came to know, T'was when he asked for cure, Yes, Jesus Christ by just His word, Had healed his servant sure. Just through a word of love and faith, God worked a mighty deed, The kingdom of God's chosen Way, Grew quickly with faith's seed.
