Walk to Me

By Gerald Sumeracki

Their fishing boat began to toss, As waves grew with the breeze, The darkened sky with lightning flashed, No more they rowed with ease. Then all at once they saw the Lord, Upon the waves walked He, Must be a ghost, they thought, not man, As Peter strained to see. "Be it you Lord?" he called to Christ, "If so then call me hence!" "Come then," Christ called, "and walk to me." He did, it made no sense! Yes Peter walked up to the Lord, Then fear his heart turned cold, He sank before the Lord and begged, "I perish Lord, take hold!" The Lord reached out, took Peter's hand, And raised him to his side, "Why did you doubt?" He asked His friend, "As toward me you did stride." "When you let fear replace your faith, "Your trust in me lost out, "Accept I not divided hearts "Where trust in God's in doubt." "God for the will of man won't beg, "So let loose all your fear, "And let pure trust rule day and night, To heaven thus stay near."
