Elizabeth's Miracle

By Gerald Sumeracki

She had never had a child, The years had left no joy, Now as a woman grey in hair, Her life was but a void. She loved her husband dearly, A priest of God most good, They'd hoped that God would grant their prayer, But now He never could. To be so barren was a curse, All knew that was the case, Must be a sin God could not hear, As she did hide her face. It was the visit of her niece, When Elizabeth felt the surge, Her womb was blessed with special life, As God these words did urge. "Blessed art thou among women, And Blessed is thy fruit! For in you doth my Lord reside, God's flower of David's root." And so the child in Mary, Brought Elizabeth great news, For now her baren womb knew life, A gift to turn the Jews. Elizabeth did birth a manchild, And John became his name, Deep in the desert he would preach, In manners brave, not tame. Through him would come repentance, Through him would end the night, For through his pointing to the Christ, God saved men from sin's plight.
